Sodium bisulfite as a food additive is marketed as E222. It is used to inhibit bacterial growth in distilled beverages, and it is added to shrimps, potatoes, and cherries. It also plays key roles in winemaking. It can be added directly to fresh fruit juice in small doses to sanitize it before fermentation, while it can also be used for cleaning winemaking equipment and bottles. Sodium bisulfite is also the active ingredient of Campden tablets.

Sodium bisulfite is also valuable for photography. It preserves thiosulfate in fixing baths and scavenges oxygen in the developer solution. It is also an important component in the preparation of textile dyes. But its most important use is for water treatment systems. It reduces the corrosion rate in steel by scavenging for oxygen. Thus, it is added to large pipes and boilers. It also assists in tap and waste water dechlorination.

Sodium bisulfite is now available in ChemWorld. Product is available in different pack sizes and can be shipped within the day upon order.
